Tariff Reform Poster

Tariff Reform was the great issue of Edwardian politics and in many ways sealed the fate for imperial integration for the future. This is a crude propaganda poster in favour of Tariff Reform suggesting that it would allow for more goods from around the Empire to be available to the working man and conversely claiming that the cupboard would be bare if the Free Trade option was maintained. Interestingly, in the era before female suffrage it is the male in each of the pictures who seems to be the primary decision maker. It has to be said that most working people were sceptical of the claims for Tariff Reform and believed that free trade would provide sustained lower prices.
