HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar

The Battle of Trafalgar became a defining moment in the rise of British power in the Nineteenth Century. Britain had taken on a combined fleet of two of her greatest foes and decisively defeated them. The victory may not have allowed Britain to win the war there and then but it at least kept Britain safe and gave possession and control of the Oceans to the Royal Navy. Britain was now free to hoover up all the remaining French and Spanish colonies scattered across the globe. Trafalgar ushered in a century of maritime dominance for Britain.
