Brigadier-General Henry Havelock

Henry Havelock was in charge of the main relieving force coming to the rescue of Cawnpore. Originally, his flying column had become bogged down dealing out retribution and trying to secure the route from Allahabad. Despite winning a series of convincing battles on the outskirts of Cawnpore, often against superior numbers, the relief column arrived too late to save the defenders or the women and children of Cawnpore.
