Band c1902

The regimental band would play on mounted and dismounted occasions. Some of the instruments here would clearly not be played while the band was mounted and it is fair to assume that some of the band members were too young to be skilled enough to ride and play music at the same time. There are 38 bandsmen here plus the bandmaster (in frockcoat) while the mounted band would consist of around 25 men. They wear dress tunics with red and yellow pillbox caps, which were discontinued soon after 1902. They all wear white pouch-belts even though this item had been abolished for the rest of the other ranks in the regiment.

The red velvet drum banners were received by the regiment in 1889 and can be seen on the Drumhorse c1904. It is interesting to note that the harp badges face to the left on both banners, meaning that the badge on the right side banner faces the rear, but on the two sides of the drumhorse shabraque both harp badges face towards the front of the horse.
