HMS Kent, 1916

Despite the destruction of the German Pacific Fleet in 1914, it was felt appropriate to keep warships based in the islands to patrol the route around the Cape Horn and Southern America. These ships were often used to inspect South American merchant ships to ensure that they were not bound for enemy ports or carrying contraband cargo. It is interesting to once again see the quantity of ships in the harbour behind the assembled crew.
