Shepherds and Sheep, 1914


This image would have been what most people in Britain would have associated with the Falkland Islands at this time. The sheep industry had proved to be remarkably successful on what was otherwise highly marginal land in the South Atlantic. The Falkland Islands Company organised shipping to export wool and meat products to Britain and Europe. Much of the economy of the islands adjusted to this industry in one form or another.
