SS Imo, 1921


SS Imo was a ship that ran aground off the coast of East Falkland in 1921. She was being used as a whale oil tanker when she hit rocks and ran was grounded. During heavy fog it ran aground at Cow Bay two miles off Cape Carysfort on November 30th. Fortunately, no crew were hurt. Previously, the ship had been involved in a very nasty explosion during World War One. She had subsequently been renamed as the Guvernoren ("The Governor") when she was relocated to the Falkland Islands.
