Trip to Darwin Harbour, 1914

This is a fascinating photograph that shows both the harsh terrain found on the islands, but it also shows how technology was increasingly being utilised on the islands. If you look carefully, you can see that the truck actually has tracks on the backwheels to help it negotiate the boggy ground. This is a period before 4 wheel drive cars and advanced engineering but shows just how much investment was possible on the islands in this pre-WW1 period.
