Major, Review Order 1815

The Officers’ dolman and pelisse by 1815 was gold laced and all blue. The pouchbelt was also gold laced with a red edge. The lace was vellum-and-point pattern. The fur edge to the pelisse was black for both officers and men at this stage. The officer is in review order; white breeches and hessian boots. The way he holds his busby gives us an unusual view of the top which is red and has a tall white over red plume in a gilt socket. This officer was one of the officers drafted into the 10th Hussars following the extraction of 26 officers who signed a letter of complaint against Colonel Quentin in 1814. He is Major the Hon Henry Cecil Lowther who had served in the 7th Hussars since 1807 but was transferred to the 10th on 12 Nov 1814. He left the regiment in April 1817.
