Officer's Pill-box Forage Cap

The pill-box cap as it was called was referred to as a forage cap in Dress Regulations. The early examples are rather shapeless but this later cap is straight sided and more formal in appearance. Nevertheless the lace was of the same Diamond and Point pattern (see Officers' Gold Lace). The button on top, in the middle, is called gold purl and is surrounded with gold Russia braid. The top edge is traced with the same gold braid. The slim leather strap was originally of black leather but this example has a rather well-worn strap.
