Colonel George Jackson retired from the regiment in 1870 after 22 years in command. This photo was taken around that time, when he was 58 years old. The garment he wears, called an alkalak, was sometimes referred to as a blouse. It was green with silver lace and braid. His cuffs show a small amount of red below the silver decoration. This is made up of broad silver lace and braid patterns in the style worn by field officers in the artillery and light dragoons. Lieutenants would have had a silver Austrian knot, and captains the same but with braid swirls. His belts are also silver laced and it is interesting that he has no chains and pickers on the pouch-belt, as a photo of Lieutenant C W Campbell in 1865 shows him in a similar uniform but with chains and pickers on his belt. Colonel Jackson has a red kummerbund under his waist-belt. On his shoulders are straps that also seem to be laced with silver. He wears breeches, aka pantaloons, which would be multani mutti in colour i.e. yellow buff. Black Hessian boots would be worn with these breeches.
