British Empire Title

8th Gurkha Rifles

Badges & Buttons 1886 - 1947

This page from H J Huxford’s history of the regiment shows buttons and badges of the 44th and 43rd Regiments. The two regiments (8th and 7th Gurkhas) were brought together in 1907 to become the 1st and 2nd Battalions. Huxford, writing the captions in 1950 refers to the two units as the 1st and 2nd Battalions (of the 8th Gurkhas). GLI stands for Gurkha Light Infantry, a designation that was dropped in 1891.
