General Archibald Paris

General Albert d'Amade was the Commander of the French Division. Initially this was landed on the Asiatic coastline at Kum Kale in order to create a diversion and disrupt Turkish responses to the landings. They were later transferred to the main landings where the individual French soldiers fought well but General d'Amade was criticised for lacking flair and imagination. He himself contended that he was working within the framework of a flawed campaign that he could do little to alter. Nevertheless, he was replaced in May by General Gouraud.
