NWMP Constable, 1887

Painting by Frederic Remington. The pillbox cap was unsuitable for working in bright sun but continued to be used for several years in the summer months. The other side of the cap can be seen in Constable at Regina 1893. The scarlet serge tunic is scarlet all over with no braiding. He has an Adams revolver in his leather holster which was on the left hip until the introduction of the Sam Browne belt for constables in 1904. Oddly, the ammunition bandolier is on the right shoulder; other photos show it worn on the left shoulder.
