Skinner's Horse

Officer's Full Dress (Waistbelt)

The waistbelt, like the pouchbelt was basically black leather covered in black velvet with two rows of gold lace so that the velvet showed down the middle and along the edges. The sword was slung from two straps similar to the belt but slimmer, suspended on rings fixed to the underside of the belt.. The sword had a triple-bar hilt and a black leather scabbard. The belt was worn over a black cummerbund with gold stripes. The waistbelt plate that fastened the belt was a frosted gilt rectangle with a silver badge in the middle. The two types of badge worn by British officers only are shown here. The top one was worn between 1896 and 1903 and has a 1 inside a garter inscribed BENGAL LANCERS, the other worn from 1903 to 1947 has a 1 DYO monogram over a rose on crossed lances.
