Queen's Royal Hussars

HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh KG KT OM GBE

Prince Philip was Colonel-in-Chief of the Queen's Royal Irish Hussars since their formation in 1958 and before that he was Colonel-in-Chief of the 8th Hussars since 1953. When the QOH amalgamated with the QRIH in 1993 he found himself out-ranked by his mother-in-law, The Queen Mother. So she became the Colonel-in-Chief of the new regiment and Prince Philip was Deputy Colonel-in-Chief from 1993 until her death in 2002. From 30th March 2002 he has held the post of Colonel-in-Chief of the Queen's Royal Hussars and visited them on several occasions to meet members of the regiment. He is photographed here on one such visit to Iraq in 2006.
