Captain C J Maxwell


Charles James Maxwell was born on 26 Oct 1863. He was a lieutenant on 16 April 1884 and a captain on 19 Aug 1891. He was an an accomplished polo player and played for the Scots Greys team. He was second in command of C Squadron in South Africa. He was wounded on 11 July 1900 in a battle at Zilikat's Nek. C Squadron was forced to surrender after 12 hours fighting against superior numbers. He was invalided to England on 3 Sep 1900.
