Captain Francis Lamb Philp


Francis Philp was born on 11 Aug 1836 and purchased his commission in the Greys as a cornet on 17 July 1857. He purchased his promotion to lieutenant on 24 Dec 1858 and was promoted to captain by purchase on 14 Feb 1865. He was married on 19 Sep 1874 to Mary Eliza Ellen Browne, at St Margaret's, Brighton. He died on 1 May 1908 and was buried at St Margaret's Old Churchyard, Lee in London. The photo was taken in 1874, the year of his marriage, when he was a captain. He wears the dress uniform of a captain of the Scots Greys.
