Colonel Sir Edward Dering 3rd Bt


Edward the 3rd Baronet of Surrenden Dering, Pluckley, Kent raised the 24th Regiment on 8th march 1689 but he only commanded it for 6 months owing to poor health. He died on 15th Oct 1689, at the age of 39, and the command of the regiment went to his younger brother Daniel. Edward was the eldest son of Sir Edward Dering 2nd Bt, and like his father and grandfather, was an MP for Kent, in 1678, 1679 and 1681. He succeeded to the Baronetcy in 1684. He was married to Elizabeth Cholmeley and they had a son, Sir Cholmeley Dering 4th Bt. Sir Edward and Elizabeth are both buried in Pluckley.
