| There were three brothers from the Godwin-Austen family that served in the 24th Regiment. The other two were H H Godwin-Austen who served from 1851 to 1878 and A G Godwin-Austen who served in the 24th from 1874 to 1885. Frederick joined the 24th on 28th Feb 1875 and was on campaign in the 9th Cape Frontier War of 1878. He served under Lieutenant Pope in G Company and died with his men on 22nd Jan 1879. |
