Lieutenant Francis Porteous


Francis Pender Porteous, aged 31, was from Jamaica and commanded A Company of the 1st Battalion. He had entered the 24th as an ensign on 9th march 1868 and purchased his promotion to lieutenant on 22nd Dec 1869. He served in the 9th Cape Frontier War of 1878. His company were ordered to remain in camp at Isandhlwana until the start of the Zulu attack when they were placed on the left of N battery, 5th Brigade RFA.
