| Pullen had been promoted from sergeant-major to QM on 21st July 1877. He served in the 9th Cape Frontier War of 1877-78 and was QM to the 1st Battalion at Isandhlwana. The quartermasters are often blamed for the failure of ammunition supplies reaching the men on the front line. The difficulties of opening the ammunition boxes has also been pointed out as a cause of the destruction of the regiment. |
