Lieut-General William Seymour


William was born on 8th Feb 1664, the second son of Sir Edward Seymour 4th Bt, of Devon. He was Colonel of Lord Cutts' Marine Regiment in 1694 until it was disbanded in 1699. He then became Colonel of Dering's (24th Foot) on 1st March 1701, until 11th Feb 1702. And finally he was Colonel of the Queen's Regiment (4th King's Own) from 12th Feb 1702 to 24th Dec 1717. He was appointed Brigadier-General in charge of Marines in June 1702. He was also active in politics, serving as MP at various times for Cockermouth, Totnes and Newport (IOW). He died on 9th Feb 1728.
