Private Charles Holmes


Charles Henry Holmes was born in Bethnal Green and enlisted in the 1st Battalion Royal Fusiliers from the Militia in Oct 1898 at the age of 19. He went with them to Burma in early 1901 and was part of the 4 company detachment that was sent to Tibet in 1904. He was present at the capture of Gyantse. In April 1907 he was disharged at Netley as unfit for further military service. His medal for the Tibet campaign was sold at Spink Auctioneers on 30 Nov 2000.
