2nd Lieutenant Herbert Quy Howard DCM


2nd Lt Herbert Quy Howard was an officer in 2/2nd Londons (Royal Fusiliers). He was killed in action on 8th Aug 1918, age 21. Herbert was the son of Herbert E & Harriet S Howard, 6 Queen Street, March, Isle of Ely, Cambridgeshire. He was awarded the DCM for an action on 13th Nov 1916 when he was a private serving with 1/1st Cambs Regiment on the Somme at St Pierre Divion (London Gazette 26th Jan 1917). He is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. His unusual middle name, Quy derives from Stow cum Quy, a village 4 miles east of Cambridge.
