The Royal Irish Regiment

Colours 1900

The Players cigarette card reproduced here (rather poorly) was published at the outset of the Boer War in 1900 and shows the Colours of the Royal Irish Regiment that were presented to them in 1892. The Regimental Colour on the right has been described already but there is a slight difference in the central device which here has the regimental title inscribed on a blue circle around the badge. The Queen's Colour is the Union Flag with the badge and title in the centre, on a red ground, and the QV crown above. There is no sign of the battalion number in the upper corner.
