The Yeomanry

Mounted Officer c1840

Simkin's painting of an officer of the Warwickshire Yeomanry is taken from the regimental history. It is inaccurate in some respects but is a fine illustration of the uniform worn between 1833 and 1856. There is no central red stripe to the belts on this officer, and the cuff ornamentation is certainly wrong. These discrepencies lead us to suspect that he was wrong about the scarlet shabraque on the horse. The bell-topped shako is correct in having silver lace and a silver chin-chain, but the badge should be gilt.
