The Yeomanry

Troopers in Service Dress 1916

The dress for the hot climate of Egypt and Palestine in 1916-17 was adapted from the khaki service dress. The tunic was of light material and the Wolseley Helmet had a regimental flash on the left side, blue with white letters WKY. The K was small with a short line under it. Rifles are not visible in this photo but may be kept in long holsters on the off side. The sword is attached to the saddle on the near side. It is the new pattern long cavalry sword introduced in 1912 and was to prove very useful in the charge at Huj in Nov 1917.
