From 1889 the Cape Town Highlanders wore scarlet doublets with yellow collar and cuffs, piped with white, having eight silver buttons down the front and three on each cuff. Smaller buttons held the scarlet shoulder straps which had the regimental title embroidered in white. The yellow collar had silver metal thistle badges and the white leather waist-belt was fastened with a regimental silver metal clasp. The glengarry was blue with a red and white diced band and blackcocks tail feathers fastened to the left side above the silver metal badge. The kilt was the Gordon tartan and the sporran was, until 1902, a copy of the Argyll & Sutherland sporran, dark goat or horse hair with six white tassels. This uniform was worn with red and white hose, white spats and black boots. This private holds a cane which was carried for walking out.
