This figure was the basis for illustrating every grenadier of the infantry regiments in Uniforms of the Infantry according to the King’s Regulations of the 19th December 1768. Each figure was coloured according to regimental facings and has the lace painted on the lapels, collar, cuffs and wings. The inset shows an example of the bastion, or flower‑pot‑shaped lace loops sewn on the deep yellow facing cloth. The outer stripe is blue but has degraded in this reproduction.
The regulations called for a fur cap 12 inches high, with a metal plate on the front. The King’s Crest and G R formed a universal pattern, in silver‑plate on a black japanned ground. The long silver scroll at the top was inscribed NEC ASPERA TERRENT. This pattern fur cap differed from the plainer fur cap of the 25th and some other regiments on Minorca in 1770.
