The schematic chart prepared in 1803 by Charles Philip de Bosset, an officer of the Swiss regiment de Meuron, presents each regiment of the British Army as a square of colours showing the distinctive elements of its uniform. The 25th (Sussex) Regiment appears in the centre of this enlarged section of the chart. The dark yellow facings are shown in the upper line, and the pattern of red, yellow and blue lines — worn by the regiment since 1751 — is displayed on the left. In this version of the chart the blue stripe appears as brown.
The explanation at the base of the chart states that the lace illustrated is that of the privates. Sergeants wore plain white lace, while corporals had the same lace as the privates. The 25th had bastion‑shaped loops, and the officers had straight gold lace loops.
