Officers’ Shoulder-Belt Plate c1800

Officers’ Shoulder-Belt Plate c1800

Major Parkyn’s book Shoulder-Belt Plates and Buttons (1956) illustrates this belt plate but cannot date it more precisely than 1782–1805. It does not agree with the rectangular plate worn by Captain Stewart in 1793 and is probably late 1790s or early 1800s. The central crowned garter is inscribed SUSSEX REGIMENT. The image comes from the National Army Museum online collection.
