Charles Theodore Becker was born on 14 Jan 1856. He joined the 2nd Battalion, 25th KOB in August 1873, and with the rank of lieutenant served in the Afghan War of 1878-80. As Acting Adjutant with the 1st Battalion he was in the Peshawar Valley Field Force under Lt General Maude and afterwards in the Khyber Line Force under Lt General Bright. He took part in the expeditions into the Lughman Valley and against the Waziri Khugianis, and was present at the battles at Kam Daka and Nargosi.
He was appointed Regimental Instructor of Musketry from June 1880 to June 1881. Captain Becker was detached for staff service in June 1886 to take up the post of Adjutant to the 3rd Admin Battalion NW Provinces Volunteers, until June 1891, in which year he was promoted to major. Major Becker fought in the Chitral Relief Force in 1895, the storming of the Malakand Pass, the Passage of the Swat River and the engagement at Panjorka. He was with the 2nd Battalion’s campaign in the 1897 Tirah Expeditionary Force as Deputy Adjutant General, and Quartermaster General in the Peshawar Column.
He was given command of the 2nd Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers on 3 Dec 1902 until 3 Dec 1906 during which time the battalion was serving in Burma. After leaving the regiment Colonel Becker commanded No.2 District Scottish Command and retired in 1913, but was re-employed when war broke out in 1914, and promoted to Brigadier General in 1917. He commanded 58th Brigade (19th Western Division).
