The Gallipoli Peninsular and 'The Narrows', 1915

This 1915 illustration helps encapsulate the strategic utility of the Gallipoli Peninsular and the Straits of the Dardanelles. It illustrates the hilly terrain and the fortifications that were already in place before the Imperial Troops landed. It also shows how easy it would be to deny any shipping from travelling through the Straits without control of the land.
