Mounted Subaltern, Review Order 1885

There is little difference between this mounted officer and his modern-day counterpart in the King’s Troop despite the difference of more than 130 years. The intricately embroidered sabretache was abolished in 1902, but the shabraque was retained, although the one seen here has Queen Victoria’s cypher, and Guelphic crown. His black sable busby is taller and more elegant than the shapeless fur worn now. The egret feather plume is also more distinctive than the present-day white ‘feather duster’.
