Lieutenant Hon. Victor Yorke


Hon. Victor Alexander Yorke was born on 24 March 1842 and joined the RHA in 1860. He was the son and 6th child of Admiral Charles Philip Yorke, 4th Earl of Hardwicke. His mother was Hon Susan Liddell, daughter of Lord Ravensworth. Victor died on 23 Dec 1867 at the age of 25. This photo shows him on the right, in the rank of lieutenant in the dress uniform of the Royal Horse Artillery, his rank indicated by an embroidered crown on his collar. The other officers are Captains Elliot and Murray. The date of the photo is said to be 1867 the year of Yorke’s death. He was buried in the family vault under the Chicheley Chapel of St Andrew’s Parish Church, Wimpole, Cambridgeshire.
