Y Beach


The landings on Y Beach by the King's Own Scottish Borderers and the Plymouth Battalion of the Royal Marine Light Infantry was initially unopposed. However, there were command confusions from the very outset. After several hours of waiting, the Turks launched counterattacks with a vengeance. Keeping up the pressure for the rest of the day and throughout the night, the British decided to evacuate the beach back to HMS Goliath the following day.
