Inigo Jones' Banqueting House

The Banqueting House represented the first Royal building since the time of Henry VIII. It became a very special place to the Stuarts who decorated it with the finest art even getting Rubens to paint spectacular interiors. However, it was also the place that formed the backdrop of Charles I's execution in 1649 as his scaffold was placed in front of it.
