The Supreme Allied Commander, Admiral Lord Mountbatten, decorating Chin Peng for wartime services on 6 January 1946 at the steps of City Hall.

Chin Peng received two campaign medals from the British for his efforts during the Second World War. In addition, he was also decorated with the prestigious Order of the British Empire, but this was later rescinded when he led the Malayan communists in their insurgency against the colonial government.
