Officers in review order at Portland on St George's Day 1898. They wear red and white roses on the front of their bearskins as part of the celebrations on their regimental anniversary. The tunics are scarlet with white facings which were changed in the following year to gosling green. The figure in the middle is Lieut-General Willis, Colonel of the Northumberland Fusiliers. Seated next to him, in bearskin and knee boots, is Lieut-Colonel Pennington, commanding officer of the 2nd Battalion. All the officers wear a crimson sash over their left shoulder except one officer in the top left hand corner of the photo who has a leather pouch-belt; he is the regimental surgeon. |
