The displayed Queen’s Colour and Regimental Colour of the 1st Battalion King’s Own Scottish Borderers are arranged here to show the final Colours which were laid up in 2006. The Regiment was a single battalion unit, the 2nd Battalion had ceased to exist in 1948. This display shows the gilt Royal Crests on top of the pikes, or staffs. These Royal crests were common to all the infantry regiments but had a special significance for the KOSB who had been entitled to the Royal Crest as part of their Regimental regalia since 1805 when they were granted the title ‘King’s Own Borderers’ by King George III.
