Undress Sabretache

The gilt badge in the middle of this black leather undress sabretache is specified and illustrated in the 1864 Dress Regulations for the Royal Artillery. It can be seen in prints and watercolours of officers of both the RHA and the RA dating back to c1860. The image of a mounted officer in undress 1836 shows a fairly similar, but larger design, but a Sharpe/Gambart print of 1855 shows a plain black leather sabretache without a badge.
